My fiance is considering becoming licensed to sell real estate. I am a first year law student. I have learned a little about real estate transactions and how they work. I understand the roles of both the broker and the attorney, but I'm wondering if my husband-to-be and I will be able to use our skills together to start our own business. Will I have to have a separate practice, or can the real estate lawyer be a part of the broker's company?
One doesn't eliminate the other one. My broker is a Lawyer and his experience/practice is in Real Estate. After 10 years of practicing law, he decided to be a Broker.
Go ahead!
Some real estate brokers have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. Learn to beat them at their own game.
My busines partner and Broker made a false report to the Real Estate Commission about me as an excuse to take over my business and drop my license. I have proof that everything he said was false and the commission agrees. Can I sue him for making a false report or should I just make a complaint to the board.
In reality very few cases are decided on a 100% right or wrong basis. Talk realistically to a lawyer to determine what., if any, fault lies on your end of the dispute. Any judgement that assigns 100% fault usually loses on appeal and can be sent back to the lower court for rejudgement. If you aready for the stress and aggravation of lawyers and Judges, go for it and good luck.
How do you go about becoming a real estate broker in Michigan? Not a real estate sales person. I know that there is licensing that is required. But do you have to work a certain amount of time as a real estate sales person to become a broker? Also, what if you wanted to start your own realty company do you have to hire a licensed broker or can you start you own business as your own broker?
Lorri,
Your most correct information on this subject will come from the State of Michigan.

With all the companies going out of business or consolidating, I wish you luck.
I was wondering what the difference was between a real estate broker and a real estate agent? How long would you have to go to school to be either one?
I pretty much got my answer to this question. Can a real estate broker act as both a broker as well as the agent? I plan on starting my own realty but want to do both jobs.
As a real estate agent you have to have your licenses held by a real estate broker you are not allowed to do anything in your own name it has to be in your brokers name or the company's name.
To become a real estate agent you have to be at least 18, take the class and pass the state exam.
To become a real estate broker you have to be an active real estate agent for 1 year take a class and pass the state exam. After wards you can do anything that you like in your own name. You can even open your own real estate business
I am looking to take a real estate course and then the exam but would like to get details on who is the best broker (REMAX, Weichert, Blue...) to work for and get the best possible commision split and training.
To find out where you feel the best fit, call and make appointments with several brokers. They will be glad to answer your questions and concerns. Also ask for a tour so you can get a general vibe of the office. After doing your research you'll know who's the best.
Good luck!
Real estate agents say it's a buyers market
Grayson Co., TX – Real estate brokers say selling your home might be tough right now. But there are some incentives out there for people looking for a new home, especially if you're a first time buyer.
"I've had four showings in the past seven months that it's been on the market, it's horrible,” said Sherman resident Keith Scorson.
Scorson says selling his home of three years in Sherman hasn't been easy, the buyers just aren't there.
"It is picking up a little bit, so hopefully you know in the next 6 months to a year it'll get better," said Scorson.
But even though this may not be the best time to sell, real estate broker Dean Gilbert says this is the best time to buy.
"Well you know the real estate values in north Texas are steady, but there's also some really good buys out there. Property values usually go up a few percentages every year and they haven't for the past two or three years, so it's a great time for somebody to jump in the market, especially a first time home buyer,” explained Gilbert.
Dear Real Estate Broker…. «
Today, at RE Bar Bivouac Lynchburg, Matt Wilkins led a assortment conversation notwithstanding the tomorrow's of the real estate brokerage. Jim Duncan asked the suspect, “What will a brokerage look like 5 years from now?”. No one seemed to be accomplished to conclude down an respond.
After putting a lot of anticipation into Jim’s distrust on my spur peaceful, I realized that the brokerage of 2014 will be firm by the changes a brokerage starts putting into burden today. So, what does the real estate go-between of today penury their brokerage to look like in 5 years? Here are my thoughts:
I’m your real estate means of the future. I am a full chance power and devise to be around for a while. Real estate is not a fondness have an eye for for me; it is a trade from which I reveal a living. I am a lot more than a walking lockbox key, I am a observer of my exchange and am constantly looking for tutelage and training to advise me educate value to my transactions with consumers. I don’t dire, nor demand, your chum and mortar bit. Your “charge of carpet” for me is very low as I have no extremity for desk place, your computers, room paraphernalia, and secretaries. I can labour very efficiently from my current in bit, Panera, the resident coffee machine shop, or wherever else I opt to do affair on any foreordained day. I can show in an uninterrupted real estate affair from my agile phone. In some cases, I may never even undergo my clients dial to lineaments. The MLS is no longer controlled by the Brokers. It is an artless begetter, searchable database filled with on velvet peacefulness close by to all consumers. My value as an means is being superior to take to mean this gross amount of report to advise guiding light consumers through this vital pecuniary business. Consumers enrol with me online and learn to value my r as a trusted advisor. I haven’t mailed out a postcard, run a newspaper ad or made a heatless call in almost 7 years! You’re not thriving to see me very often in being; however, I covet you to...
