who and when decided that the credit card holds the key to your financial future?
Senior couple

all i hear is credit card this and that. why is the credit card the most important thing in determinig whether or not you have good/bad credit. many people pay other bills on time maybe in cash. so when was it decided that your financial future is based on credit cards?

A credit card is not the most important thing in determining your credit history.

You take out different types of credit, they include revolving credit (credit cards), installment loans (car loans, mortgage) and loans (like debt consolidation, etc). All of these accounts are important to your credit rating.

The way that you pay your bills determine your having good or bad credit. Your credit score will increase a small amount with every payment made on time. It takes 24 months of consistent on time payments to establish a good credit rating.

If a bill is paid in cash or not does not matter, rent, utilities, cell phone bills these are all accounts that do not get reported to the credit bureau. Only those accounts that actually report to the credit bureaus will affect your credit rating.

What do world travelers/vagabonds do about their financial future?

I mean the travelers who work only long enough to get enough money for their next adventure. I am interested in becoming just such a world traveler/vagabond, but I just wonder what will happen in the distant future. If I work and scrounge only to travel and do not accrue any savings, what will I do when I am too old to continue traveling? Check myself into a Retirement home?

vagabonds, by definition, don't give a good ------- about their future. They generally don't have anything, and they either continue working until they die, or they smarten up somewhere along the way, and start planning, often much harder, to have a retirement.

That is, unless they inherit enough from their grandparents to retire on. I know a few of those "Trust fund babies".

I want to know how to best secure my financial future?
broker commodity trade v2

Im 19, and a year out of high school I have been thinking a lot lately about how Im going to secure myself financially for the future? Ive been wondering about the whole deal with social security, and Im not very sure wether or not that would cover me enough to retire the way I really would like to. I went onto the ING site to see how much I would need- and it said over $2 Million! How can I reach a goal like this starting out early?

If you contribute the maximum of $5,000 per year to a Roth IRA, averaging a 6% return, starting at 20 years of age you will have over $1.1 million when you are 65 which will be tax free. If you also contribute $300 per month to a 401(k), also averaging 6%, through your employer, that will grow to over $800K, although that money will be taxable when withdrawn. Even though it sounds like a lot to invest each month, when the contribution is taken from your salary for the 401(k), it will reduce your taxable income and may well put you into a lower tax bracket.

(ARA) - Many parents may be putting their children with disabilities at risk without even knowing it. Because families are so overwhelmed with the daily demands of childcare, they fail to plan for the financial future of their children.

"We have found more people than you can imagine struggling with this issue and calling us for help," says Bill Dougherty, assistant vice president of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual). The 5 Scariest Threats to Your Financial Future - CBS MoneyWatch.com

The spiel from the “financial practised” or cover vehicle goes something like this: “How would you like to get 8 percent with no downside hazard and be qualified to take out your gains for retirement receipts tax-unhindered?” What makes this let fly so daunting is that it plays on our two most derogatory instincts — unease and avariciousness. With this cross one's heart and hope to die, you’d never have to venerate the sadden many investors endured from September 2008 through Stride 2009 when their portfolios confounded more than half their value.

I’ve investigated dozens of these claims. They’re always for indemnity products such as even-handedness indexed annuities, capricious annuities, or whatever flavor of the month is positive shop returns with “guarantees” on the downside. In slogging through them, I’ve found they allowance a judgement-numbing intricacy and a probability for the planner to make colossal commissions (sometimes more than 10 percent), always serving the guide far elevate surpass than the buyer.

The gotchas swivel around one or both of these:

They give you less than the authentic roots superstore reparation, often by stripping out dividends and by throwing on annual return caps depriving you of the exchange’s finery returns. They don’t give you the takings in change. You get an annuitized payout reduced by expensive fees.

Shun It: Register some prevalent feeling and profit that if this merchandise in truth did what was promised, institutions would be pouring in trillions of dollars. You can get the same regular annual carry back if you buy the bonds and stocks on your own, extra you keep the flush that would otherwise be distraught to commissions, costs, taxes, and the cover business’s profits. Reward the usually that anything that looks too advantage to be accurate almost always is. And never buy a spin-off you don’t fully interpret.

You paucity enough bond to screen you and your relations against a catastrophic as it that could significantly weaken your financial future. Yet many people go through person as though they’ll never get strange, have an mishap, or die, either by not purchasing indemnification or buying coverage with gaping holes. If you died tomorrow, would your soul cover rule offer enough return to stumble on the needs of your spouse and dependents?
