I'm a Black Female... and I want to go to Puerto Rico and London when I get in College as a exchange student, do I have to still do immigration papers for Puerto Rico and London? Can you guys give me step by step. Oh and one more thing, do Grand Valley State in Grand Rapids, Michigan offer exchanges?
Thanks people. =]

yeah you do. i went to london for about 3/4 weeks as a student ambassador and you needed all that junk - pass port, immigration legal pass, it was a mess. but we (my group and i) eventually got through it.

I live in Ireland and next year (school year 2007/8) I want to be an exchange student in America for 6 months. How do I go about this?
Is there any agencies that I can do it through that will arrange a home etc.

have you looked at www.usit.ie ..they do the j1 visas, so they might do an exchange student thing as well.

also have a look at the CIEE website http://www.ciee.org/

they have a program, seems to refer you back to usit though.

good luck. San Francisco is a cool place to go if you get to choose the city :-)

What are some exchange student programs for high schoolers?

I am interested in being a REAL exchange student, you know going and living with a family for a couple months, or whatever amount of time. I would like to go to Australia, what are some programs that host exchange students there?

I am already in the People to People program to Europe this summer, but I'm interested in a real exchange student program for next year.

I'm not sure how to become a real exchange student, but I think if you were to ask your school counsler that they could help you.
I am doing people to people as well and was wondering if you would be able to help me figure out how to raise the money to go this summer? I'll add you as a friend and you can accept if you want to help me out.

I live in Texas and I want to become an exchange student in London, but I'mm a little confused. I want to know where do I sign up at, or if I even need to sign up? I want to know the circumstances of being an exchange student. What web site should i look at?
Please if you have any information about this, please answer.

Wow! A lot of questions. My answer applies to high school students, not university studentts.

OK, first, most programs will ask for top three country choices, few to none will guarantee a particular city. I actually would recommend you NOT studying in England however. Not that I have anything against England, it's just that one of the biggest benefits of an exchange is the language immersion.

Having said that, the next thing to do is find a program. There are hundreds of them and many are not particularly good. Make sure any program you look at is CSIET listed (www.csiet.org). That will give it at least SOME oversight. However, that's still over 100.

Talk to your school counselor for a recommendation. Chances are they've worked with exchange students in your school. The premier programs are AFS, YFU and Rotary. Any of those will do well by you.

If you'd like to get a feel for what being an exchange student is all about, check out this place: http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/
It's an online forum for exchange students and also an information center.

Good luck!
