What US investment brokerage firms trade on the Hong Kong stock exchange?
SINOPIX PHOTO

If I wanted to buy a stock that was only offered on the Hong Kong stock exchange what investment brokerage firm would I have to open an account with.

For instance, Scottrade does not trade stocks on the Hong Kong exchange. They only do trading on the US and Canadian (I think) stock exchanges.

I am assuming that you are a retail (i.e. not institutional) customer in Hong Kong. If correct, Citibank trades HK and US stocks.

Can McDonalds shares be purchased on the HongKong exchange? With all the expansion in China MCD is a good stable stock, in my opinion. Does their growth in China affect the NYSE price? Or if it on the Hong Kong exchange would their growth in China only affect the Hong Kong exchange price?

China Mobil has been a good one for me. Whether it will continue to be so I do not know, but it is one of the few stocks that I do have a decent long term profit in. It is the largest cell phone company in the world in the country with the largest populations in the world. 2+2=4. I believe its dividend is 3.5%

If you are in US, see if the stocks are being traded under ADR.
If you don't know what is ADR, google it.

To trade on a foreign exchange directly (instead of ADRs), normally you need to open a trading account with a brokerage house in the country where the exchange is located. There may be citizenship / foreign investment / tax requirements and limitations on various foreign (stock) exchanges. But E-Trade and HSBC have HK trade desks. Contact them.

The Wynn Macau seems to be issuing its IPO, incorporated seperately as a (wholly / partially owned) susbidy of Wynn Resorts USA. If so, all you need to own is Wynn stock on the American exchanges while Hang Seng traders would be trading the Wynn Macau. The profits from Macau would be yours through your stock ownership of Wynn Resorts.

No big deal for Hong Kong

The couplers, as iCapital would term this group of sheep-like, conventional people, point to the plunge in exports of the Asian export junkies as solid evidence of a coupled world.

Yes, exports in most countries have plunged since September 2008 (note, not since 2005 or 2006 when the US subprime or housing problem started).

In this sense, Hong Kong is no exception. This time round, the plunge in Hong Kong’s exports has been far steeper than during the Asian crisis.

Hence, the couplers are convinced that the Asian export junkies will be stuck in a quagmire unless and until US consumers start consuming again.

Unfortunately, as conventional thinkers, they cannot and do not see the other aspects or the other dimensions of the world economy.

Figure 1 shows Hong Kong’s quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) performance since 1996. The current recession in Hong Kong, which many people think is the worst in decades, is actually far less severe than the recession created by the Asian crisis.
