I am considering going to school to become a mortgage broker. Can anyone help me find out what courses are required, and what the best avenues are to take in terms of organizations to join etc. that will give me the best chance at succeeding as a mortgage broker?
I ahve been told of 2 courses. Once in seneca that takes 2 semesters: Financial Underwriting, and one by a guy I ran into who says all I need is a 2 weekend course to get a certificate and certified as a PFA (Personal Financial Advisor).
Any indepth support here would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi. Go to www.retrainingcenter.com click on Mortgage Broker and Illinois. Also try loanofficersschool.com or searchsystems.net Good luck on finding the right school for you.
I simply cannot seem to find legitimate information on becoming a mortgage broker in California. Many of the web sites that purport to have information really share very little of anything and some are just plain frauds. I'd like to find information on mortgage broker training and possibly information on finding a school (preferably Los Angeles) where I can get training on becoming a mortgage broker.
What are you thinking BRO that is a bad job especially this time of the year. You only get two applicants a week. No houses selling.
It depends upon the state as to what the minimum is for a license, and if a license is even required. In some states, you just say, "I'm a Mortgage Loan Officer," and suddenly you are one.
However, the good ones learn a lot more. Degrees in accounting, finance, licenses in financial planning. Then be prepared to learn a lot more once you're in the field.

Biggie is so full of crap Mtg compaines are not customer service driven, they are completely sales driven, because they dont make a dime until they close a loan. If they got paid by the hour then maybe customer service driven but not on a % cut.
American Casino
In Baltimore, risky business

Upon watching "American Casino," a well-constructed documentary about the subprime mortgage crisis from Washington's Leslie and Andrew Cockburn, one of my first responses was to feel bad for Baltimore.
This was only after, of course, feeling complete wonder at the inventive ways banks, mortgage brokers and insurance companies found to fail the American people, sadness at the plights of those who have lost their homes, and fear that somewhere in my mortgage hides fine print that will one day relegate my family to my in-laws' basement.
But yes, Baltimore. At this point, B'more is superseded only by Detroit in the race for America's Most Photogenic Economic Disaster. As Leslie Cockburn's camera roams the foreclosed rowhouses of Baltimore, their planked-up doors reminiscent of shots from "The Wire," I thought: Baltimore needs some good PR. A charm offensive for Charm City. At least the movie put some money into the community, in the form of commissioning a couple of (not-so-great) hip-hop tracks about the mortgage crisis from such local rappers as B. Dazzle and Kojo Hotflow.
