A & A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd. offers complete cross border business services including Customs Brokerage, International Freight ...
What specifics does one look for when they are deciding who should be their customs broker for importing and exporting freight from the United States or Canada???
Which ways can a Customs Broker add value for their customers?
Good question.
I use Milne & Craighead, who just got bought out by Livingstons. They do a pretty good job, but like all brokers you need to have a specific contract drawn up listing all the charges. I know we used to get whacked with a ton of ACIC charges until I threatened to take my business elsewhere and then they put a cap on the fees. I get quotes on services from other brokers about every other year just to make sure i'm not tied into an old higher $ contract. I have had the odd problem with M&C but on the whole they are pretty good. Just take note that this is a changing industry and brokers are being swallowed up right left and center by the bigger companies.
Has anyone ever taken the certified customs specialist course offered by CBSA. It's a correspondence course that just sort of gives you course material and leaves you out there. So if anyone is familiar with it, I'm curious to know what topics to focus on in preparation for the final.
Thx in advance.
Never done it

What much does a customs broker make a year?
Well this all depends on the broker that you are working for...secondly, your years of experience that you have in the industry and this also depends on the specific field or division that you are working in...from release analyst, file clerks to supervisory positions.
salaries would and could range from 10 per hour upwards to 80K per year...of course if you have a license then you would tend to make the 80K per year...
